Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Health for all people, all over the world, is an important part of sustainable development. Various diseases exist that cause serious health issues, including: tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, polio, and malaria.
Significant progress has been made to reduce these diseases, but more attempts are needed in order to counteract their global occurrence.
Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia are the areas with the most child deaths; four out of every five children who die before age five are from these regions.
The ratio of maternal mortality is 14 times higher in developing countries than in developed countries, and women in developing countries are still not receiving the public health they require. AIDS is a serious health concern and causes the second most deaths among teens, especially females, worldwide.
The main focus of SDG 3 is to ensure proper public health for all people worldwide by 2030. This will take place by reducing maternal mortality; end the deaths of children under the age of five; end the outbreak of common diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and malaria; reduce deaths or injuries from road accidents; and increase access to sexual and mental health care.
Financing and capacity-building in developing countries will play a big part in ensuring that this can become a reality.
