Marine Conservation

Includes courses in partnership
with the University of Richmond

Overview

Most conservation organisations agree that marine species are under threat. Join a Marine Conservation Virtual Internship to kickstart your career and help solve this problem. Throughout the internship, you’ll connect with marine conservation experts and be exposed to methods and practices used to replant coral reefs, combat poaching, promote the protection of marine areas and much more. By becoming immersed in the day-to-day running of marine conservation development projects, you’ll leave equipped to secure a successful career in this field.

Project work
Throughout your internship you’ll be completing one project each week that helps a local organisation solve an actual problem. Since we work with real partners, real, valuable projects will be assigned to you. This means that the types of projects you could work on will vary. We aim to match you as closely as possible with an organisation and a task that aligns with your personal career goals. See below for some of the projects you could work on during your internship.
Create marine conservation education resources for primary schools

Contribute to revamping educational outreach materials by designing lessons on Belize’s local ecosystems and species. These lessons will support a long-lasting education program with significant and enduring benefits.

Produce educational infographics on turtle conservation

Research the conflicts that occur between turtles and humans in Costa Rica and the Caribbean, and the ways to reduce these. Share this valuable information with the public through engaging infographics designed for social media.

Analysis and monitoring of photomosaics of benthic species

Carefully study photomosaics to track how benthic species cover evolves with the reintroduction of Carribean king crabs in reef patches in Mexico. Analysing these images will uncover exciting insights about the underwater ecosystem.
